2. Can I borrow e-books from the library?

E-books are available for loan with just your Bellaire City Library card. Your card must be current and not have a fine of $10.00 or greater. There is no cost to borrowing e-books and there are never any fines.

3. Do I have to have my library card to check out books and movies?

You may present other identification or recite your alternate ID you placed on your application. There is a limit of four check outs before you must present your Bellaire City Library card.

4. Why can't I get into the databases or my account to renew material?

If a library card has expired or if the account owes more than $10.00, then access to the databases and the personal account is blocked. Please come into the library to update your account.

5. How do I renew my material?

You may come into the library, call 713.662.8160 or go to the web site to renew material. Items that have holds cannot be renewed. More...

6. Can movies be returned in the bookdrop?

Yes, all Bellaire City Library material that will fit in the opening of the bookdrop can be returned there.

7. My movies and books are due today. Will I be charged an overdue if I put them in the bookdrop?

If the material is put in the bookdrop before the library is opened the next day, it is considered to have been returned on the previous day. In other words, if your movie is due on Tuesday and you put it in the bookdrop before 9:00 am on Wednesday, it is not considered overdue.

8. Are fines charged on the weekend and holidays?

Yes, fines are charged on Sundays and all holidays. You can always return the material in the bookdrop to stop the fine.

9. Can I return my books and movies to any library?

All material checked out from the Bellaire City Library must be returned to Bellaire City Library. Fines will be charged until the material is returned to Bellaire.

10. Is my PowerCard accepted at the Bellaire City Library?

The PowerCard can only be used at a Houston Public library. Harris County Library also has a separate card.

11. Can I use my personal laptop at the library and get on the web?

Yes. The library is wireless and there is no charge to connect.

12. When are the booksales?

13. I've lost my library card what do I do now?

Any lost card needs to be reported to the library immediately so that you are not responsible for any unauthorized use on the card. A replacement card will be issued for $1.00.

14. My purse/wallet was stolen with my library card in it.

Please report the theft as soon as possible to avoid unauthorized use.

15. How do I put a book or movie on hold?

You may come into the library or call 713.662.8160 as ask library staff to assist you. Holds may also be placed online through the catalog with your library card.

16. Does the library have a copier I can use?

The library offers a color photocopier that also prints in black and white. Black and white copies are 10 cents and color copies are 50 cents.

17. Do you have a typewriter I can use?

A typewriter is available for $1.00 an hour or any part of an hour. You will need to provide your own paper.

18. What if I lose my book or movie?

Any material that has been checked out and has been lost will need to be paid for by the borrower. The cost of the material plus a $5.00 processing fee will be charged in addition to any fines. If the material is found within 90 days from date of payment, then the cost of the material will be refunded. Fines and processing fees are not refunded.

19. Is there a fax machine?

Faxing is available for $1.00 per page for local calls, $2.00 for long distance calls and $3.00 for international calls.
